Bio

Silvia Forlai was born on July 28, 1966 in Rome. She graduated from the Art School and then completed her studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, specializing in scenography and costume. She had worked in cinema-theater-television and then in computer graphics as an illustrator. Later she dealt with artistic craftsmanship and decoration. She have got experience of painting and drawing courses for children and adults, also organizing impromptu painting contest. She currently dedicates herself almost exclusively to illustration and painting.

I am a great admirer of Edward Gorey's works. I immensely enjoy making black and white ink illustrations in a noir style.

I make oil paintings and gold leaf.
It is useless to represent reality. No matter how good we are at representing it, it will never be reality, but our personal vision of reality. Instead, what I make more realistic are the objects, the things, to make the unreal that I paint as real as possible, so that it looks like reality and that you can immerse yourself in it, in order to experience the maximum magic, awe and wonder of these images and visions. I would like to immerse you and make you find yourself catapulted into an archaic world.
In the Middle Ages, my favorite historical period, of which I am more and more amazed and amazed, there was a sacred world, in which supernatural action always entered into everyday life.

I am working on a book of illustrations suitable not only for children and teenagers but also for adults. I think I've done something really good. They will be adventures of two of my characters: Hari & Musci.

My illustrations have gothic and nocturnal settings, very often set in gardens and have resulted in, in addition to other beings, two half-animal and half-human characters, a dog and a cat.
The dachshund Hari and the baby cat Musci.
They venture into mysterious moonlit walks discovering strange and new things and encountering various situations and characters. They have their friends who sometimes appear and accompany them.

I make limited edition fine art print reproductions of my ink illustrations and paintings.
